Put you hands up for a safe space violation

A student representative has been accused of violating a ‘safe space’ for simply raising their hand to ask a question during a debate at her student association.

Imogen Wilson, 22, the vice-president for academic affairs at Edinburgh University Students’ Association, faced a “safe space complaint” following so-called “inappropriate hand gestures” during a student council meeting.

The Edinburgh University Students’ Association, as part of their ‘safe space’ policy, requires students to refrain “from hand gestures which denote disagreement”, or “in any other way indicating disagreement with a point or points being made”.

These types of absurd safe space rules and speech codes, which exist at university campuses across the globe, damage intellectual freedom.
